Just…yikes all around.
The latest guest to swing by Dr. Phil’s show is claiming she is married to Tyler Perry.
Karla (who is a mother of two) appeared on the talk show “to divulge the intimate details of her online relationship with an unverified Tyler Perry fan page profile”.
In addition to the supposed nuptials, Karla claims she is also the biological mother of Tyler’s son...even though she’s never met or seen the filmmaker in person.
Here's the first clip:
Her concerned children stood by her side, telling the host that their mother has given the alleged scammer over $100,000! The sisters revealed they have tried on many, many times to convince their mother that she is being fooled, to no avail.
Dr. Phil seems to have done his best to dissect the deception, even mentioning that the scammer’s broken English is in indication he (or "they") is not the real Tyler.
Karla justified it though, by saying it was one of his counterparts contacting her in this instance on behalf of the Tyler Perry Foundation — which doesn’t exist.
Hope she gets the help she so desperately needs. This is really sad. And we hope the people scamming her get what is coming to them.
Tyler is no stranger to drama himself.
During an interview for Oprah’s Master Class on OWN, he once opened up about growing up being (falsely) told that a man named Emmitt Perry Sr. was his father.
"From a child, I’d always known that this man despised me, and I could not figure it out for the longest. I could not figure out why he hated me so. And every action was about his hatred or his disdain for me."
You would have been 73 today. Happy Birthday Mamma. You’re forever with me.
He often asked his mother if Emmitt really was his father and she always replied, "I hate to tell you this, but that's your father." Even on her deathbed, she would not offer up the truth.
"Something inside on me just knew...she died and it wouldn’t settle in me. So I did a paternity test with my brother and myself...and we don’t have the same father."
He had then explained that he still financially supports the man that raised him.
"Number one, my mother asked me to because she loved him. And secondly, as terrible as he was, and as horrible as he was, he never once left us. We were never hungry. And every time he’d go to work all week, he’d bring the money home. In return, I’m giving him what he gave to me. I had shelter. I had food. He has shelter — pretty nice shelter — and any food that he wants to eat.”
Tyler also struggled with suicidal thoughts because of the abusive treatment he suffered at Emmitt's hands.
"I thought, 'What is the point of living?' My mother was truly my saving grace, because she would take me to church with her. I would see my mother smiling in the choir, and I wanted to know this God that made her so happy. If I had not had that faith in my life, I don’t know where I would be right now."
