Keri Hilson is opening up about her personal struggle with depression, which led to her taking years off from her singing career.
Hilson’s musical career was just taking off when she found herself in the deep pit of depression.
The singer made the decision to step away from the limelight to deal with her mental issues.
The 35-year-old, revealed she "hit rock bottom" and dropped out of the public eye for seven years.
Hilson is now speaking publicly about her battle in order to help others dealing with depression.
The "Knock You Down" singer stated that she believed her depression was triggered by "personal and professional" mistakes, along with the end of an 11-year relationship.
The "Pretty Girl Rock" singer spoke at the Silence The Shame Panel about her struggles with the blues.
Hilson stated, "I was bearing the weight of some personal and professional mistakes and they just weighed so so so heavy on my spirit, and I was just not myself."
Keri continued, "Although I was at the mountain of my life, really the trajectory of my dream – I was at the pinnacle, you know? I was severely unhappy and then add to that, this is when I decide to jump out of an eleven-year relationship. Bad decision, bad timing."
She adds, "But it all just kind of spiraled for me, and became something I had never been through. I had never recognized myself as a person who can’t pick themselves back up. I mean, I was literally on stage crying."
Keri also admitted that the gossip headlines that "attacked her character" were also very hurtful.
Many fans may recall that it was once believed that Hilson was throwing shade at Beyoncé. That led to Beyoncé's fans, the Bey Hive, to go after Hilson.

Hilson explained, "You don’t know where a person is, it’s not just about what you are feeding your audience, but what you are doing to the creators. There are a lot of undeserving people that are being attacked by just a headline."

Keri adds, "You don’t understand some of the worst days of my life were from a lie. An attack on my character. And I am an amazing person. I do say that because I’ve done the work to become that and all I ever wanted to be was just a great human being."
Hilson is now staging her comeback, making the announcement via Twitter to her 4.5 million followers.
Her campaign involves a live auction set through IfOnly, in which fans can bid for a 1/8 chance to tour her studio. Once inside they will be treated to exclusive look at her new album. Proceeds will go towards the Keri Hilson Foundation which is said to "enrich the lives of women & children through arts, education, & health & fitness."
