5 Rappers Who Give Back In The Best Way

When it comes to making it big, two things are important: remembering where you come from and giving back to your community. While not often showcased within the mainstream media, there are many rap artists who have used their time and resources to help those in need and make a difference. Here are 5 rappers who give back to their fans and community in a major way.

1)Snoop Dogg

Snoop is known mainly for two things: being a West Coast legend and one of main stoners of hip hop. However, not many people know that Snoop Dogg is also one of the most charitable rappers in the game. The Snoop Youth Football league, Voices Against Violence, and Save The Music Foundation are just a short list of charities that the MC is a part of. He even takes time out for personal visits to his fans, which we witnessed earlier this year when he traveled to Houston to meet viral sensation and long time fan, Southpark Shawty. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, with Snoop Dogg's son starting his own organization dedicated to activities that range from feeding the homeless to hold charity basketball games.

2)Young Jeezy

The Snowman is known mostly for his tales of the traplife from his Thug Motivation album series and mixtapes such as Can't Ban Da Snowman. Although he's known more for his “trap music” and making headlines in the news for the wrong reasons, Young Jeezy has shown that he has a giving heart on multiple occasions. In 2014, the rapper announced that he was donating $1 million to the Jay Morrison Academy, which provides lessons and scholarships to young students. In 2005, Young Jeezy also urged fellow artists from the Atlanta area to fill over a dozen 18-wheel trucks with supplies to help those affected by Hurrican Katrina, as well as opening the doors to his Atlanta home for those who needed a place to stay.

You don't get to make it to the top of the rap game without giving back some blessings. Drake is a big example of this. Champagne Papi's charitable moments include donating $30,000 to build computer schools in a Kingston, Jamaica community, and giving a $10,000 honorarium that came with an award to Dixon Hall, which creates opportunities for people in poverty stricken neighborhoods in Toronto. Even his beef with Philly rapper Meek Mill didn't stop Drake from showing up at Strawberry Mansion High School (whose alumni happens to include Meek Mill), and spending $75,000 to create a recording studio at the trouble school.

4)J Cole

Although he knows that he's one of the top lyricists in the game right now, outside of music J Cole is humble and extremely charitable. Although he doesn't sign the big multi-million dollar checks like some mega stars are able to do, the rapper still chooses to give back in multiple ways. His Dreamville Foundation helps bring books, clothing and school supplies to many of the children in the Fayetteville, NC area. Also, he bought his childhood home, (which he used the address as the title of his platinum selling album) and decided to open it rent free to single mothers in the area. It's acts of giving back that truly makes the fans love J Cole.

How could we talk about rappers who give back to their communities without mentioning Akon? A true rags to riches story that not only includes the flash and fame, but also spending time and money in a major way to help those in need! Akons spends time with charities such as the “Clothes off our Backs” foundation as well as the Konfidence foundation. What the rapper has been most well known for in recent years however, is helping to supply the 600 million African people who still go without access to electricity with the “Akon Lighting Africa” project. Not only is he simply giving back, this is something that can potentially change the world. That is something that definitely earns you a spot on this list!
