Our program, "Connecting Youth & Communities with Law Enforcement" (CYCLE) is purposed with engaging law enforcement officers and community youth on how to havebetter and more meaningful interactions with each other. The engagement on both sides will improve relationships between law enforcement and the community they serve; thus making communities safer places to live, play and work. The youth engagement component of CYCLE is a one-day supplement to a 16 hour training taught to local officers, that focuses on the principles of key subjects that include adolescent brain development, de-escalation, implicit bias and trauma informed response.
During this session you will gain a greater understanding of the challenges and decisions officers confront each day. Our hope is that we build empathy on both sides and the community youth participant leaves with a basic understanding of the complex nature of law enforcement, how to properly address concerns, file a complaint or address other issues with law enforcement, and techniques to navigate interactions with lofficers. Community involvement is the most powerful force any law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime. Through CYCLE, we hope you become more informed and involved; ready to make your community a better place to live, work and play.
This opportunity is for high school and college age young persons (ages 16-22) from Dallas ISD Schools who would like to actively participate in this groundbreaking event. We have 15-20 slots available for this program.
